The Inclination of Our Hearts

We are born and for a short time we are innocent. Much of the time that we maintain innocence we lack the ability to form words and are dependent upon someone else to keep us alive. It isn’t long before our sinful nature is revealed. With in the first few years of life we act out in anger when something doesn’t go our way or we attempt to tell a lie when we realize there are going to be consequences to our actions. We don’t have to be taught these things, it’s apart of our DNA. Something Adam and Eve passed down that will always be apart of humanity. We are cursed and the inclination of our hearts is to sin. Psalm 141: 3-4 says

“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord;

keep watch over the door of my lips.

Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil,

So that I take part in wicked deeds

Along with evildoers;

Do not let me eat their delicacies.”

I recently read this and it really resonated with me “Lord, do not let me be drawn to what is evil” God please help me to resist the temptation. Evil isn’t just what appears as evil to us. What you think is evil and what I think is evil may be different, so who is right? Where does truth come from? Evil is anything that goes against God’s word. God’s word is truth. Lord, let us not fool ourselves. As David says create in me a clean heart and renew within me a right spirit. (Psalm 51:10) The bible tells us that the ways of a man seem right in his own eyes but it ends in death. (Proverbs 14:12) We must come to terms with our sinfulness and realize that our way isn’t the right way. Once we know this we can understand our need for Christ. Jesus died for each of us to break the curse that sin has upon us, He died for you, He defeated death for you, He loves you! If you know him as Lord and Savior let this move you to desire sanctification – the greatest thing we will ever do is live fully committed to Christ seeking to be more and more like Him. We will never be perfect on this side of things but we must strive to grow in the grace of God. Change is inevitable, if we know God. If you do not know God, know that he loves you and desires a relationship with you. Read The Holy Bible and pray for him to help you see your need for him. Lord, I pray for each person who reads this that they would be spurred to seek you. I pray for those who know you that they would GROW in your goodness. I pray for those who do not know you that they would come to KNOW you and your goodness. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen!

Grow in Grace!
