“He did what was right in the eyes of The Lord.” or “He did not do what was right in the eyes of The Lord.” is a set of words you are likely to come across in the Old Testament. I’ve read across it multiple times lately without much thought to “The Eyes of The Lord”. Until the Holy Spirit prompted me to ponder more upon those five words. Without much thought its easy to read over and conclude “this person was pleasing to God” or “that person wasn’t pleasing to God”. It tends to make me ponder more upon the person who was or was not pleasing to God than God Himself. But The Holy Spirit in a sense illuminated these words for me and it brought new meaning. First, how precious are the eyes of The Lord! Praise God! He see’s things clearly, He knows our hearts intent, and His eyes judge justly. Proverbs 15:3 NKJV says “The eyes of The Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” God sees all things and knows all things and we can trust that the lens through which He sees things is just. Speaking in reference to God Psalm 89:14 tells us that righteousness and justice are the foundation of The Lord’s throne. Deuteronomy 32:4 is another verse that beautifully displays that God is perfect and just. It states “He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice , a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.” We can trust that God see’s all things through a perfect lens. The words “The eyes of The Lord” also reminds me that HIS eyes are the eyes that truly matter. As a Christ follower it is important to remember, in the end, when I come face to face with The Lord I will be judged by what His eyes saw and how He sees my actions. The most important thing we can do is seek after Christ allowing him to purify us and praising Him for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ because apart from The Blood of Jesus Christ we would never live eternally with God. It isn’t possible on this side of things for us to be perfect but God knows the intent of our hearts, if we are truly seeking Him, and repentant when we fail. The eye’s of society, the eyes of friends, the eyes of family, all sorts of eyes will judge our actions but “The eyes of The Lord” are the only eyes that judge with pureness and perfection. Lord, let it be your eyes that we are most concerned with.
