We typically all have hope in something, what we have hope in we usually place our trust in. Recently we sang a song at church “Trust in God” by Elevation Worship. The lyrics to the song say “I trust in God my savior, the one who will never fail” As I was singing my mind began to really think on those words. We all trust in something, typically something that gives us hope of a brighter day. We tend to look to different things to give us hope, purpose, or fulfillment. Often these aren’t even bad things we just look to them to fulfill us in ways only God can. It may be a job, a degree, marriage, children, wealth, vacation, a home, mended relationship, or many other things. These things at some point will fail us, they will let us down. The vacation wasn’t the relaxing time you hoped for or the degree doesn’t fulfill you like you thought. We’ve all faced disappointment in things we desired and we’ve all probably throughly enjoyed some of these things. God is gracious to allow us these joyful experiences. There is nothing wrong with enjoyment or achieving something! The problem simply lies in when we misplace our trust. When we choose to trust in something other than God to meet our needs or satisfy. Only Jesus can truly satisfy our souls. In John 4 Jesus speaks to the Samaritan woman at the well. She came to draw water from the well. Water is something we all know is required to live. Jesus says to the woman in John 4:13-14 “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” What well are you drawing from? Is it the well of worldly hopes that never truly satisfies or the well of Jesus Christ which draws hope of everlasting life and true satisfaction? Lord help us to place all our hope and trust in you. We know you will never fail and only you can satisfy.
Grow in grace!
