Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. John 17:17
The standard of right and wrong in our society is constantly changing. There have always been deceptive and perverse standards accepted by society as good, true, and right, since the fall of man occurred in Genesis 3. However, it does not matter what society or man defines as true, good, right, or wrong, what matters is what God says is good, true, and right. Isaiah 40:8 tells us that the word of God stands forever. God’s word is unchanging. It is the same always, forever and ever. Man’s ideas and definitions are constantly changing but for something to be true it must align with what God say’s is true. God’s word is truth, He is the source of truth. Man has a sinful nature the bible tells us that the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked (Jerimiah 17:9). God is perfect, righteous, just, holy (Psalm 18:30). His ways are higher than our ways and his thoughts as well (Isaiah 55:8-9). I want my guide for living and basis for right and wrong to come from God’s word. I may not always completely understand God’s ways but I can trust His word over the inclination of my sin prone heart, all throughout scripture and in my personal experience God has proved himself trustworthy and true. Titus 1:2 tells us that God cannot lie and John 8:44 says that satan is a liar, the ultimate liar, there is no truth in him, he delights in confusion, division, and destruction. While God is the giver of abundant and eternal life, satan comes to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10). We must humble ourselves, seek after God, and ask him to give us understanding of His word. Scripture can be twisted by man in many different ways to justify all sorts of sin and ungodly behavior. This is why it is imperative for us to humble ourselves, ask God to help us understand His word, and convict us when we are wrong. May He clear the lens through which we see, correct us where we are wrong, and transform us by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:2). Let us seek not to satisfy our hearts desires, but rather to gain understanding of truth asking God to renew our minds to align with His ways. If you want to learn more from God’s word for yourself the book of John is a great starting point. God tells us in His word if we seek after him we shall find. His word is living and has the power to transform and change anyone. Seek for yourself!
