I’ve been studying in the book of Acts and the Lord has me enamored by one word, BEGGED. Acts chapter 13:42 says “ So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.” What was it that they were begging for? It was the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ! Chapter 13:38-39 “Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.” The Jews didn’t want Christ they wanted religion. They couldn’t see their need for a savior. May God fully open my eyes and your eyes of any inability to see our need for HIM. The Gentiles begged for him and later in the chapter we learn that on the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. The Jews apposed this but the gospel was preached to the gentiles and many believed! (Acts 13:44 – 47) God will pour himself out to those who are hungry for Him! The gentiles recognized their need for the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ. They begged to hear the word. What is your hearts desire? Ask God to help you desire more of Him! Discipline yourself to seek! James chapter 4:7-10 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Cleanse your hands you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” I pray for myself and you that God would draw us to Himself and He would work in us to the point that beg would be appropriate to describe our desire for HIM! He doesn’t want perfection our version of perfection doesn’t stand in the sight of a Holy God, He wants our hearts!
